How To Use Email Marketing To Further Your Business

Provide exclusive content in your marketing emails. Follow up with contacts you meet at trade shows. Collect people’s phone numbers when they stop by your table and call them within a couple of weeks of meeting them. Use the follow-up call to check in with your contact and ask him if he would like to receive your marketing newsletter by email.

Treat each reader like a relationship. Ask in the first email for permission to send more. In the second email, tell them what discounts, products and services they can expect in future emails. In the third email and after, follow through with the content you promised to provide them with.

Be sure to get permission before you use email to contact anyone. People will generally view unwanted emails as spam and will ignore them or delete them without reading them. Sending mass emails may also break the rules set forth by your ISP, if you do not have customer permission first.

Do not generally waste your time, or resources, sending out important email marketing around major holidays. People are off doing things rather than sitting at their computer reading emails. There are, of course, exceptions. For example, if you’re having a holiday sale, especially a Black Friday sale, you might want to send an email over the holiday.

Avoid using a lot of graphics in your e-mails. Graphics can take a long time to load which may discourage some users from viewing the e-mail. As well, emails that are heavily laden with graphics are often seen as junk or spam mail by email programs, meaning your email could land in a junk folder very easily.

Email marketing should have the branding of your business. Design an email template that incorporates elements from your site. By using the same fonts and colors, and including your logo in all of your marketing materials, you will create a visibly unified message. This fosters brand recognition among your subscriber base.

Email is a great marketing tool, but it is not an arena where the hard sell is appreciated. Never pressure your subscribers into buying. Put sales pitches at the tail end of your emails, especially if your readers signed up with expectations of informative content. Consider email as a tool to cultivate interest, not instant sales.

Make sure you are working off of a clean list. This keeps the time you spend directed towards targeted customers. Targeting the wrong customers will not help you, and a clean list can get you to more of the right customers much faster. Clean up your list, and get to the right customers!

Always remember that as each day goes by, your subscribers will likely be viewing your messages on a mobile device or through a smartphone. These mobile devices have lower screen resolution than traditional computer screens and provide much smaller screen size. Find out how your messages look on these devices, and make any changes necessary to make them easy to read on small phone screens.

Have a field in your opt-in registration where subscribers can leave at a minimum their first name, if not first and last. This will allow you to include their name in your marketing emails, giving the mailings a personal, friendly touch. This gives your email communications a better appearance and will set them apart from all the other bulk emails they receive.

Try following up to your clients with a FAQ section. Include a link onto your email that says to click here to view the frequently asked questions in order for them to have a better understanding of your company. The concluding postscript could inform them to make sure they see you in action.

Remember, as you develop email marketing campaigns, you are working towards building a solid reputation. Do not be cheap when it comes to email quality, be careful to target the right customers for your business, and stay away from any tactics that could be considered misleading. Your reputation is at stake, so be sure to take this into account.

If you are going to incorporate graphics into your e-mails, you should make certain that the e-mails are still readable if the recipient chooses not to display those graphics. A great way to do this is to utilize ALT tags so that replacement text will be displayed when the images cannot be displayed. It might also be a good idea to place the bulk of your images near the bottom of the e-mail.

Research shows that there are three emails that are the most important. The first offers an introduction and invitation to sign up and give permission to receive further communication. The second presents the customer with specific expectations such as coupons, discount offers or newsletters.
